Design & Beautification
The Design Committee works to capitalize on Downtown Burlington’s best assets, such as historic buildings, pedestrian-oriented streets, and a beautiful physical setting. An inviting atmosphere, created through attractive window displays, parking areas, building improvements, street furniture, signs, sidewalks, street lights, and landscaping, conveys a positive visual message about the commercial district and what it has to offer. The Design Committee also works to enhance the physical appearance of the commercial district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, and developing long-term plans.

With the Downtown Partners Facade Loan Improvement Program , applicants may borrow up to $5,000 or 50% of the cost of façade improvements at a 0% interest rate. The DPI Design committee will review your design and application to see if it meets the criteria.
Design Assistance
Since Burlington is a Main Street community, downtown business owners are eligible for design assistance from Main Street Iowa at no cost and no obligation. The Main Street Iowa design consultant works with property owners to develop feasible maintenance and façade improvements to buildings in the downtown district. Along with finished architectural renderings of possible improvements, the owner receives suggestions regarding signage, awnings, paint colors, and appropriate care.
