4 - Starr’s Cave 5K Off-Road Classic
Come and join in at beautiful Starr’s Cave Park for a hilly, rocky and possibly muddy super fun stroll through the trails. There will be snacks, water and prizes for first place in each age group as well as for the overall winners. All proceeds benefit Des Moines County Conservation. Registration will begin at 7 AM and the race will begin promptly at 8 AM. Cost is $15 if received before June 24 and $20 if received after June 24. 4 - West Burlington Fourth of July Celebration
This annual celebration held in downtown West Burlington includes the fireman’s pancake breakfast, a wide variety of children’s games, a large craft show, and bingo. Come browse around at the classic car display. A late afternoon parade kicks off the evening. Live entertainment and fireworks at dusk makes this event one you do not want to miss. 15 - Pinta and Nina Lands in Burlington
The ships will be docked at Big Muddy's July 15 - 19. The ships are a 'sailing museum' to educate the general public and school children on the 'caravel,' a Portuguese ship use by Columbus and many other early explorers to discover the world. The public is invited to visit for a self guided tour. Admission charges are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children 5 - 16. Children 4 and younger are free. The Lake Geode Challenge has been described as on of the ‘most challenging’ races in Iowa! This Olympic distance triathlon which is part of the Heart of America triathlon series takes place in and around beautiful Geode State Park in nearby Danville, Iowa. Spectators are welcome to watch and cheer athletes as they swim, bike, and run their way through the scenic beauty of Geode Park. 15 - Open House for Aldo Leopold Middle School
The Burlington Community School District will hold a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony on from 3 to 5 pm at the new Aldo Leopold School located at 3075 Sunnyside Ave. The celebration will take place outside the main entrance. The new school is named after Burlington native, Aldo Leopold, the country’s first environmentalist. A member of the Leopold family will speak briefly at the dedication. This event is open to the public.
